Welcome to the online home of the
Big
Society
Official Ambassadors
of CAL athletics.
The Big C Society is one of the oldest campus organizations at Cal.
Formally organized in 1908, the Big C Society is composed of men and
women - undergraduates and alumni - who
earned a varsity letter while representing the University of California
at Berkeley in intercollegiate sports competition.
Who We Are and Why We're Here...
The purposes of the Big C Society are to advance and support the
athletic program at Cal, to encourage a true spirit of sportsmanship
in athletic contests, to foster the closest possible association
among all athletes who are representing, or have represented Cal,
and to help prepare the athletes for careers after graduation from
Cal.
There are now over 6000 members of the Big C Society. They are led
by an Executive Committee, their Board of Directors and an Executive
Director. Membership is open to all Cal letter winners, and to a
select group of honorary members who have been elected over the
years by the Board of Directors. There are several annual events
that the society sponsors on behalf of the athletes.
Membership on the Board of Directors is by election of the current
Board but is open to any Big C member interested, who may contact
us here. The Board of Directors meets
six times annually, while the Executive Committee meets approximately 10 times a year.
The meetings are in the Hall of Fame Room at Memorial Stadium.
In addition to all of the events the Big C Society sponsors, we
also support the Big C Sports Fund, which contributes financial
support to the individual sports programs at Cal upon request from
the coaches.
