COL Travers was a longtime supporter of the campus and namesake of its political science department. He died at the age of 95 on November 6th at his home in Greenbrae.
Last May, the political science department was renamed the Charles and Louise Travers Department of Political Science in honor of COL Travers and his late wife. COL Travers committed $12 million last Spring to endow the political science department with funds supporting undergraduate scholarships, graduate student fellowships, and faculty recruitment and retention efforts.
An ardent fan of CAL football who attended more than 80 CAL-Stanford Big Games, COL Travers also donated more than $5.5 million to the football program to help fund football scholarships, the student study center, and athletics facilities renovations.
"Colonel Travers' support and unwavering commitment has been paramount to the growth
and development of our football program," said Sandy Barbour, Athletic Director. "He
was one of the first to establish an endowed scholarship for student-athletes in our
football program and his generous spirit has inspired others to give."
