Criteria For Big C Society Sports Fund Grants
The following guidelines are to be used in connection with applying for Big C Society Sports Fund Grants:
  • 1. The Big C Society will make available up to five (5) annual grants to the University of California Intercollegiate Athletic Teams for tangible items that the Head Coach considers important for the betterment of the team, and that are not otherwise provided for in the Athletic Department's budget during that fiscal year.

  • 2. The amount of each available annual grant will be up to $1,000.00. Under extenuating circumstances, the Big C Society may consider requests which exceed $1,000.00. However, requests under the $1,000.00 limit may be given first consideration. When considering requests from, and granting requests to, different teams, the Big C Society may also consider (1) the most recent date on which the requesting Athletic Team received a previous Big C grant, and (2) the percentage of alumni members from the sport in question who currently donate to the Big C Society's Sports Fund.

  • 3. Coaches must submit requests in writing no later than May 1 each year. All Big C Society Sports Fund Grant requests received by May 1 will be considered by the Big C Society Board of Directors and responded to by June 30 that same year. Sports Fund Grant requests received after May 1 will be eligible for consideration by the Board prior to June 30 in the following year.

  • 4. Each request for a Big C Society Sports Fund Grant must state the following:

    a. the purpose for which the grant funds are to be used (i.e., purchase of a specific piece of equipment such as a rowing machine, hurdles, camera, VCR, etc.)

    b. the total cost of the item, including tax, and attach the supplier's documentation to describe the item and demonstrate that cost.

    c. an indication of whether the Athletic Team has received a Big C Society Sports Fund Grant previously and, if so, when and for what amount. The Athletic Department's Business Office Criteria for obtaining quotes for requested items, as well as their procurement, are to be followed for each request. The Head Coach or designee must be available, if requested, to attend a Big C Society Board meeting to answer questions pertaining to the Sports Fund Grant request.

Sports Fund Grant requests are to be sent to:
    Big C Society
    P.O. Box 5075
    Berkeley, CA 94705-0075
Any questions can be directed to that address, or (510) 333-5927.
